The name ThinkBook is associated with Lenovo’s laptop meant for productivity. And we can’t help but to notice that the Lenovo ThinkBook 13s checks all the marks when it comes to a student’s laptop needs. It has a simplistic, lightweight and durable design, as well as commendable processing power and great SSD speed. Also, it sports a highly colour-accurate Full HD IPS Panel for your multimedia needs.
This generation has quite a few fancy features for convenience and security. Take for example, the power button which doubles as a fingerprint scanner so you can power up and log in at the same time, among other things. They’ve also included a simple mechanical webcam cover to guarantee your privacy, which is something that many pricier competitors have.
While it does come at a slightly steep price, what you’re getting is a dependable and worry-free performance for years to come. Coupled with the breezy typing experience, good port selection and battery life (around 9 hours), it makes for a great value and makes it a laptop that is just there for you when you need it.

Huawei was aiming to create a MacBook-esque ultrabook when they launched the MateBook D 15. And they did that quite well, more so at a very reasonable price. This laptop is thin and lightweight, with a thin bezel on its 15.6-inch screen, making it look quite premium. In addition to looking expensive, it’s also surprisingly efficient under the hood.
The machine runs cool and silent as they opted for an AMD Ryzen CPU and GPU, so maintaining performance on a normal load is no biggie. Its short 5.5-hour battery life should be noted, but the USB-C charging will get it juiced up quite fast. Storage space is limited at its entry tier, but this is upgradable up to 512GB SSD + 1TB HDD storage. Additionally, the screen is also not the best due to its viewing angles but at this price point we’re not complaining.
As a bonus for Huawei smartphone users, Huawei Share is available which allows you to seamlessly interface and use your phone on your laptop. It’s very intuitive to use, where you can directly manipulate your phone screen on your laptop, or even drag and drop files from your phone’s UI, right on your laptop screen. Amazing!

Gone are the days of tacky gaming laptops with red accents that weigh too much. Instead, the gaming laptop scene has gotten a lot more exciting with the ROG Zephyrus G14; who would think such a small form factor would hold such a beast?
The Zephyrus G14 is perfectly designed for anyone including students who are looking for a laptop for their work and play thanks to its not-so exorbitant price. For one, it pushes out excellent performance thanks to the new and well-optimized AMD Ryzen chips.
A reason for this wise choice is due to the cooler and more silent running Ryzen chips. The surface temperatures hardly reach 42°C with sustained gaming, which is also helped by its internal heat pipe design and ErgoLift hinge.
It's almost a miracle that this slim and sleekly designed gaming laptop is so good for gaming, that it has a comfortable keyboard. Its entry model comes with a 60Hz, WQHD screen but you can go for the Full HD 120Hz screen for a buttery-smooth gaming experience. And of course, it goes without saying that it shines at performing non-gaming tasks. Amazingly for a gaming laptop, it can last up to 11.5 hours on battery, which naturally makes it a good carry-around laptop in college.

Weight: 2.20kg
Port: x1 USB-C, x3 USB-A, HDMI, Ethernet, 3.5mm audio jack
The Acer Aspire 5 is a bestselling budget laptop. Coming in at the sub-RM3000 price range for the base model, it has many configurations opportunities for upgrading the storage, RAM, CPU and GPU to suit your aspirations. Even with the base model, it should handle your computing needs very well, thanks to its 10th Gen Intel chipset.
Because Acer has focused on offering good internals for this laptop, they have forgone a metal chassis and sophisticated design for a simple plastic body instead, which may not be as sturdy. Other compromises on the budget also manifest on the keyboard, as it does not feel tight or tactile to type on. It does however have a decent trackpad with a built-in fingerprint scanner.
Luckily, the screen does not disappoint with its 1080p IPS panel, which is satisfactory for productivity work, although the brightness does not go as high as it should. You also get a good amount of ports (3 USB-A ports and 1 USB-C port) and great battery life for your money. Overall, a reasonable budget pick that lets you upgrade to specs that rival higher-end machinery.

RAM: 8GB
Storage: 256GB - 1TB SSD
Display: Full HD (1920 x 1080p), 13.3-inch

Weight: 1.07kg
Port: x1 USB-C, x2 USB-A, HDMI, MicroSD, 3.5mm audio jack
The Asus ZenBook 13 is an amazingly thin and light ultrabook. Sporting a 13.3-inch screen weighing just a little over 1 kg, there would be no trouble carrying it around as a nursing student. Moreover, its battery life can last for a day’s use, coming in at 8-13 hours depending on usage.
Utilising a 10th Gen Intel chipset and SSD for storage, this combo provides amazing performance and speeds for this small laptop. It also has a gorgeous vibrant IPS panel with ultra-thin bezels which provides more screen real estate and just makes it look super cool. You can imagine how crisp and smooth all the text, images and videos will look on its superb display.
Minor gripes about this product are the lack of touchscreen and peculiar keyboard layout. An interesting feature is that the touchpad also doubles as a numeric keypad and shortcut launcher, which makes it more convenient to use. If you can get past the minor issues, we find that the ZenBook 13 is quite the top-tier product in our books.
